David Guetta & Showtek Accused of Bootlegging French Techno Track

Imitation is the finest form of flattery… Right? Unfortunately, that’s taken with a grain of salt in the EDM world. Recently, David Guetta has found himself under media scrutiny regarding his latest release “This One’s For You,” a song that some say resembles the Major Lazer hit “Lean On,” featuring Mø.

This time, David Guetta and Showtek teamed up for their newest track on Skinkalation Volume 2 EP, a 5-track compilation album for Showtek’s label ‘SKINK.’ The track, titled “The Death of EDM” premieres the two DJs’ attempt at the complicated techno genre and immediately gained publicity… But not for the reason you would think.

“The Death of EDM” featuring Beardyman (who was not featured in the original), is a brazen ripoff of Gesaffelstein’s “Pursuit” in terms of its structure, synth-work, and percussion. Though Guetta and Showtek prove that Gesaffelstein’s unique style may be duplicable, “The Death of EDM” will never match the mastery in the original.

Take a listen to both of the tracks below and leave feedback about which you think was best executed.
