Massive Attack address Brexit at BTS festival, perform with Tricky
On Friday night, British pioneers Massive Attack performed in London’s Hyde Park for the British Summer Time festival. During the set, they deplored the results of the recent EU referendum that saw the United Kingdom vote to leave the European Union.
The group performed ‘Eurochild’, from the 1994 releaseProtection, for the first time in twenty years and dedicated it as a requiem to the country’s decision to leave the EU.
Robert del Naja, aka 3D, told the crowd: “As sons of immigrants, we are both very disappointed with the situation. We can’t allow ourselves to fall victim to the populist bullshit going on at the moment. We can’t let the bigots and racists back into this situation. It’s bullshit.”
Behind them, the stage featured visuals relating to the current political situation including the line “we are in this together”, tabloid headlines, and the hashtag #withrefugees.
