Acid House Pioneer DJ Spank Spank Has Passed Away
DJ Spank Spank of pioneering Acid House group Phuture has died.
DJ Spank Spank, real name Earl Smith Jr., was a native of Chicago and has long been considered one of the pioneering figures behind Acid House. As Phuture, with fellow DJs Pierre and Herbert, the trio helped to launch what would become one of the first cross-over genres in electronic music.
With the 1987 record "Acid Tracks", Phuture developed a sound which is often considered to be a cornerstone of the acid-house genre.
A post of the official Phuture Facebook page shared the tragic news of DJ Spank Spank's passing.
Born and bred with the Detroit techno scene, I pledge my allegiance to the underground.
