Die Antwoord Announce That They're Breaking Up, Release New Track
The end is coming for Die Antwoord. The South African experimental-rap duo announced that they will be breaking up next year.
When Die Antwoord first garnered international attention in 2010, the duo said that they would release 5 albums and 5 movies before disappearing.
It seems today, that they may hold true to that promise.
As reported by Exclaim, the rave-rap group made up of Ninja and Yolandi Visser will disband in September of 2017.
According to Ninja:
"Die Antwoord dies on that day. It's all over. I feel beautiful about it. I'm not scared of the end. I'm a Ninja. I'm not scared of death."
Although Die Antwoord plans to disband next year, that doesn't mean that they're going to go out quietly. The South African group plans to release a film that will be featured in an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Contemporary African Art in Cape Town, South Africa.
Ninja also comments on this, stating that the film has been in the works for many years:
"There's this movie we're making called South African Ninja, that we've been working on forever — literally like ten years — and we've just been finishing it off now...That's been our well that we've been drinking from and drawing from since the beginning of Die Antwoord. We actually started writing it before Die Antwoord. So, it's been in the background for all of our ideas, which have all come from this film. It's a South African gangster film that has African ninjas in it. Everything in the film is fictitious, like a regular movie, but it's hard and raw, and everything has some parallel to our lives, so it's got a surreal connection to everything."
This news comes following the release of their latest track "Fat Faded Fuck Face" which you can listen to below.
