Island of Light 2017 Has Officially Been Cancelled
Throughout the years, Pretty Lights has been working his way up to putting on larger and larger events. Just this May, he finally announced his biggest event yet: a four-day destination music experience at A Waldorf Astoria Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico called "Island of Light". Set to take place December 7th through the 10th of this year, music lovers from all over the world were getting excited for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The lineup was of course going to feature three nights of Pretty Lights Live along with other artists such as Tycho, Gramatik, and The Floozies.
Unfortunately, due to the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria that both directly hit the island of Puerto Rico, the event has officially been cancelled. This announcement came yesterday morning and was broadcasted through the event's various social media accounts as well as their website. The forced cancellation is a result of the destruction that occurred after both hurricanes that hit within the last few months. According to their website,
The resort is unable to host guests on our scheduled dates, and looking to reschedule the event anytime soon would be irresponsible, given the current state of Puerto Rico.
However, the event is trying not to put all of the focus on themselves and their event. The tragedy has effected the island of Puerto Rico and it's residents, and Island of Light is doing their part to help by asking for those who received refunds to donate at least part of them to Puerto Rico. The event organizer, Silver Wrapper, is currently working with Pretty Lights to do the same as well as work towards setting up the 2018 event. An button with the option to donate is available on their website, islandoflight.com. Furthermore, benefit events in both Chicago and Denver are in the works.
