Porter Robinson Releases Highly Anticipated "Virtual" EP

Not to exaggerate, but this EP is everything I could have ever hoped for… and more.  Fans were a little skeptical of Porter’s new Virtual Self project when the first track, “EON BREAK” dropped a few weeks ago.  He then dropped “Ghost Voices” bringing another curveball with what he described as a neotrance sound.  Today, the whole EP titled “Virtual” with five new songs has followed.  The new additions, “Particle Arts”, “a.i.ngel (Become God)”, and “Key” are the perfect songs to tie his new vibe together and make clear his visions as Virtual Self.

Listening to the EP as a whole, it is obvious that Porter is back in business.  My personal favorite, “Partical Arts” happens to be the first song on the EP.  From the start you can tell that this producing style is very different from “Worlds”.  He drew a lot of influence from DDR and other video games when creating the sound of Virtual Self, giving it a darker and faster paced sound than his more melodic songs like “Language” and “Sea of Voices”.  But luckily, there are still a lot of our favorite Porter producing techniques that I noticed in this EP like his distinct synths, pacing, and vocal chops.

We won’t really know the true message of Virtual Self until his premier show in Brooklyn that’s coming up very soon.  Rumors of virtual reality/hologram aspects have been spread about this new show, but nothing can be confirmed until he performs on December 8th.  This show is going to be a complete curveball, but If you were lucky enough to snag a ticket, I’ll go ahead and say that you are going to be in for a brilliant surprise.  Check out the “Virtual” EP below and let us know what you think about Porter’s new project!
