One Hack to Help Your Track Generate Millions of Streams
Never before have we been in a digital age in which we can do literally anything. Whether it's booking flights, making millions of dollars on your laptop from Bondi beach, or discovering new music, pretty much everybody has the ability to make a positive change in the world. But how can you utilize social media to develop a brand image, and therefore generate millions of streams? That's what I'm going to cover in this article.
Play the Game
For those of you old enough to remember, distribution of music was extremely difficult in the 90s. If you wanted to get heard by Universal Music, you had to physically burn a CD and send it to the UMG A&R in your country. Thankfully, that is no longer the case. With Soundcloud, Facebook, Spotify, and other platforms, the cost of entry in the music industry is incredibly low.
Essentially, the music industry is two things: content & distribution. The artist creates the music, and then distributes it via Spotify, live gigs, Facebook etc. Instead of publicizing your new EP on a billboard or a television ad for thousands of dollars, you're able to create Facebook videos which are then distributed directly to your fanbase. Essentially, artists create a brand in the hope of long-term sales (streaming, buying an EP, gig tickets etc).
Invest in Advertising
In order to expand an audience on Facebook, ads on the platform work extremely well. You can literally target anybody you wish. eg. If you want to get your song heard by the New York office at Island Records, run a Facebook ad so that it targets people who work at Island Records in the New York City area. Easy peasy.
However, Snapchat ads are incredibly cheap in relation to the exposure they can give your music brand. If you are about to sell tickets for an EDM gig in San Fransisco, you could run Snapchat ads against the fans of Martin Garrix, or another DJ, in the city. They could then swipe up to the link that allows the consumer to purchase tickets. The possibilities are endless.
Once you have an advertising strategy, you have to consider how to reach more people. After all, the 5,000 likes on your Facebook page won't get you very far if your goal is to be in the USA Top 10 on Spotify. Therefore, create content and use influencers to spread the music. Here's some practical advice that you can do right now:
1. Make a list of 20 states that you want your music to go viral in.
2. Open Instagram, and head to the search function, and type in the capital city of each state. Click search. It will show you the top 9 liked posts in that city right now.
3. Direct message, or find the email address of every single account that is in that Top 9 per city. Offer them FREE use of your music in an Instagram video, in exchange for tagging your Insta profile in the post.
4. Set the website on your Instagram profile to the Spotify listen link of your new song.
When people click your Instagram profile after discovering it on that influencer's account, they will be able to see the Spotify link, and may click on it.
Let's say that you manage to get 100mil followers worth of people to use your music on Instagram, that's going to be a lot of people listening to your music. Boom, you now have people all around the United States paying attention to your music brand.
Try it for yourself; and live long and prosper! 🖖
