DJ Killed After Stage Collapses At Brazilian Festival
One DJ was killed and others were injured after stormy conditions toppled over a stage at Atmosphere Festival over the weekend. The DJ, a 30 year old man named Kaleb Freitas, was performing on stage at the Brazilian festival when strong winds caused it to collapse.
Freitas was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries, but died soon after arrival. His death was confirmed in a statement by Commissioner Andre Sperotta.
"One person has been confirmed dead, the DJ at the event, while several others were injured."
At least three others were injured in the incident. Severe weather warnings were issued on Sunday for "gale-force winds and torrential rain," but the festival continued on anyways.
An official investigation into the incident is underway, though local media reports that all the necessary permits were in order for the event.
Atmosphere Festival released the following statement in response to the tragic accident:
"We always cherish the security of our audience, following all the processes, reports and authorizations requested by the local authorities. And to our audience we will keep them informed of all our actions to keep the truth about the facts that have occurred. We're sorry, we lost a friend, an artist. Our priority is to assist the wounded and their families. We thank the military brigade and the fire department for all assistance."
Video footage captured by the crowd at the festival shows the terrifying moment the stage rigging came tumbling down.
