Diplo to Broaden Music Scene in Africa Next Month with Five-Stop Tour
Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo, won’t stop breaking ground for electronic music anytime soon.
In fact, he’s about to make history yet again in April on his five-stop tour in Africa. Over the course of 10 days, Diplo will perform in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
In 2014, Diplo and his trio “Major Lazer” threw down in South Africa to perform as part of the Mad Decent Block Party. Both the Johannesburg and Cape Town stops were massively successful, which is perhaps what influenced Diplo to return.
This time around, Diplo will be hitting various festivals such as Gidi Culture Festival and Kenya Nights. His upbeat, dance-heavy signature sound will be spread across the entire African continent, which is unique especially for electronic music. Typically, artists only perform in South Africa. With this tour, the electronic music scene in Africa will be vastly expanded. People of all backgrounds will have a chance to lose themselves in his music and enjoy themselves, even if they’re not familiar with him.
This DJ, musician, and producer got his start working with British musician M.I.A. on various albums, and eventually creating the Grammy nominated song “Paper Planes”. Later came the start of the group Major Lazer and production of the touring show Mad Decent Block Party, which has had stops all over the world. Diplo has also worked with Skrillex, forming the Grammy award winning group Jack Ü. Over the course of his career, Diplo has had the pleasure of collaborating with many amazing artists such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber.
