Goa Authorities Crack Down on Late Night Partying in Indian State

The western state of Goa located on the coast of the Arabian Sea in India, announces that they're cracking down on late night partying, with the implication of a ban on parties going past 10PM.

The ban comes after growing attention following and increase in crime in the area, including prostitution, gambling and drug trafficking. The state government confirms bans on events past 10PM.

A state minister from Goa, Manohar Parrikar, told Economic Times:

“Our coast is infested with the sale and trafficking of drugs. There is absolutely no control over it. We need to stop it. First of all, we need to stop the rave parties and the all night parties which are happening here as there is a abuse of drugs in them. Late night parties are not part of our culture. We need not encourage them.”

The ban has met the criticism of club owners and partygoers alike, almost crippling Goa’s growing club scene.
