The Mashup Of a Lifetime: Daft Punk and Star Trek Is All You Need
It can easily be said that the internet can be a beautiful place. It’s full of wondrous ideas and every once in awhile there comes something that can’t easily be ignored. I’m of course referring to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, scored by the infamous Daft Punk, being mashed up with 22 minutes of footage from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
What is the name of this brilliantly exquisite creation, you may be wondering? Star Trek: Legacy.
The genius behind Star Trek: Legacy is of course an enormous science fiction fan and his name is Patrick Collins. Quoting from the video description, Collins had this to say about his recut,
“... I always thought the two film's scores were very reminiscent of one another and I wanted to use that to give this recut a more updated feel while still maintaining some aspect of the pacing and staging of the original (very long) film and it's big special effect scenes.”
Collins has pulled off an impressive feat that many have executed before with other films and scores but that’s not to degrade the work done here. Some people may see this mashup as something that is quick and easy but beyond that, the creativity shines through. Something that, as I’ve stated in the past, is lacking in the arts. So go out and make your own “mashup.” Reach for the stars in whatever you may be doing and if I may, boldly go where no man has gone before. Be sure to check out the video below!
