Why the Loss of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington is Not Just Another Celebrity Passing

“Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple.
Sometimes Goodbye’s the only way…
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you”

Chester Bennington, Linkin Park

Chester Bennington. Words cannot describe the broken heart I have for someone who has helped me through my adolescence. I never knew the man personally, but Chester and the rest of Linkin Park became a substantial part of my life. With him parting ways with the living, it leaves me with a heavy heart that is now filled with sadness. Someone who I loved and respected passing away truly made an impact on me.

The engraved memories of my friends and family singing along with Linkin Park as we drove around town will always linger with me. If I was hosting a party, Linkin Park was the go to because the band never let anyone down when the drinks were being pounded. I remember hosting awesome karaoke sessions late in the evening singing “In The End” over and over again with my back up buddy… and then the fun had to be stopped when the neighbors were at the door around 2 a.m. yelling, “It’s time to END it… Now!”. Good times.

As a drummer, I had stereo speakers behind my kit so I could play along with bands I loved. Linkin Park was no stranger when it came to accompaniment. The drum beats were always fun and energetic which is most likely the reason why I was naturally attracted to their music.

With Chester passing away Linkin Park to me won’t be the same. They may have a replacement singer like how Queen did, but the iconic Chester screams and vocals that’s carried throughout each track is to memorable for me to just be replaced. It’s a testament to how special he was to me as a fan.

Chester Bennington… Thank you for the memories, the moments, the laughter, and the good times you have given me with the songs you have provided. You will be soundly and sorely missed.

Cheers to you mate, I’ll definitely be drinking Jack and Coke for you tonight in your honor.

“Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It’s out of my control”
