DJ Shadow Unleashes Surprise EP 'The Mountain Has Fallen' Featuring Danny Brown and Nas

The legendary DJ Shadow is back with a surprise EP titled The Mountain Has Fallen. This time he is joined by two of the biggest names in hip-hop and an Oscar-winning composer. This EP is the follow-up to the excellent 2016 album The Mountain Will Fall.

The first track “Systematic” featuring hip-hop icon Nas, showcases DJ Shadow’s ability to take his old-school style and transform it into a refreshing, futuristic sound. Alongside DJ Shadow’s time-traveling beats are some truly killer vocals from the king of New York hip-hop.

Horror Show” featuring Danny Brown smashes speakers with DJ Shadow’s special blend of weaponized, mechanical mayhem. Danny Brown’s chaotic flow is the perfect partner in crime for this terrifying beat. Look out for this track! Horror Show will be haunting the airwaves all over the world. DJ Shadow spoke to Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 and explained why he admires the Detroit superstar:

“I grew up in an era where everybody in hip-hop was a character, and to me, I like that. I like when people are kind of out there a little bit and doing something completely against the grain. If you look at what is played on the radio and what’s trendy, he goes against all of that in a way that I admire.”

The following track “Good News” will be incredibly popular with long-time DJ Shadow fans. Sporting a seemingly disjointed sound, Good News delivers almost four minutes of DJ Shadow’s meticulously-crafted instrumentals.

Closing out this monster of an EP is “Corridors” featuring Oscar-winning composer Steven Price. The British composer’s impressive resume includes blockbuster movies like Gravity, Fury, Suicide Squad, and Baby Driver. The dramatic sounds that only an award-winning composer could deliver and DJ Shadow’s iconic scratches and beats, create a unique experience unlike anything in the game today.

With just four tracks and running at just over 15 minutes, this EP gives us a brief, yet awesome conclusion to the “Mountain” saga. The Mountain Has Fallen is available now on all major music platforms. Check out "Systematic" featuring Nas, below!
