Shambhala Music Festival is Under Pre-Evacuation Due to Forest Fires!
Shambhala Music Festival is under pre-evacuation currently due to a new fire staring just 20 KM’s from the event. Attendees should be prepared to leave in a moment's notice, though currently the event still has the green light. The fire departments in local areas are asking people to makde 72 hour emergency kits in case things get out of hand. The Shambhala website and facebook page will be rolling out updates. Here is the official statement is as follows:
“In the interest of public safety, we would like to inform our guests and the public, that there is an evacuation alert near the festival grounds. We are currently communicating with local government to stay ahead of the situation.BC Wildfire Service is currently fighting the fire with considerable force including 20 firefighters, 4 helicopters, 1 heavy equipment and 4 air tankers. While this does not currently affect the festival, all guests should be prepared for changing conditions”
Very scary since there’s only one or two roads that lead into the event, but organizers have ensured attendees there are evacuation plans and everything is under control. The festival is asking people to talk with friends about an early departure in case of evacuation, plan to have a well-rested designated driver & to stay informed through the Shambhala site, app or facebook page. There are 2500 staff on site that will be assisting in case an evacuation is needed. BC is very dry this summer and unfortunately this was another man made fire. The fire is yet to cross Salmo River and until then everything will be fine. Everyone stay safe and updated!
