The world is full of musical bucket list experiences - and although an impressive pile of festival wristbands will tell the tale of any party aficionado’s accolades, nothing will crown them the Bon Vivant of beaches and beats quite like a stamp on their passport to Cannes, France for Les Plages Electroniques. Taking place at the Palais des Festivals, the three-day music and arts convention in gorgeous Cannes will host a multitude of irresistible events including our seaside festival du jour, “Les Plages Electroniques,” which aptly translates to “Electronic Beaches.”
We are packing our bags to catch every artist on this stacked lineup, but which artists really put the wind in our sails this year?
“When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” So, when in France, experience Orelsan. Critics have named the rapper “The French Eminem” for his controversial lyrics and artistic grit, but we think he’s one of a kind. Notorious to the French-speaking festival scene, he sits atop the Les Plages Electroniques bill as one of the biggest headliners of the show, just under DJ Snake.
Parlez-vous Français? Even if you don’t speak French, this video comes with the subtitles you need to understand his flow, which is accompanied by his tough-as-nails production that has a universal slang of its own.
Claptone has become an iconic “face” for tech house, with fans worldwide chasing their striking sound and golden-masked theme parties from Ibiza to the edges of the earth. From the moment the world became spellbound with Claptone’s mega-hit “Cream” several years ago, a certain magic has unfurled from their sound and aesthetic that perfectly pairs with a beachside blowout like Les Plages Electroniques.
English hitmaker Jax Jones is on top of the charts and on top of the world with his fire-filled discography. Wherever you see a crowd of dance music fans singing along to a giant festival hit, there’s a likelihood Jax Jones is in front of it. His summer scorcher “You Don’t Know Me” featuring Raye threw him into the big-time music scene when it blew up the airwaves and dance floors globally in 2016, which only brought people dancing in droves to his spectacular work on Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don’s “Instruction” and his stellar performance on Duke Dumont’s “I Got U.” A DJ, Producer, Songwriter, and Rapper, Jax Jones is a tour de force on this lineup. Check out his new collaboration with Martin Solveig and Madison Beer below. We can’t sit still.
You can’t visit France without getting a taste of classic French electronic music. Mr Oizo is a household name on which you can’t miss out if you want the full sonic adventure that the area has to offer. Mr Oizo’s classic #1 hit “Flat Beat” kicked the door down for experimental electronic music in 1999, and he’s been going strong ever since with his mind-warping music and award-winning video production. Put simply, you do not even know where you are if you haven’t explored the artists of Ed Banger Records while partying in France. Mr. Oizo is one such artist that will show you a good time with his no-holds-barred, classic French feel.
La Fleur is on fire right now. As a label manager herself, her sound is perfectly calculated - the prescription that true techno and house fans crave at any hour. From the stage to the BBC Radio 1 airwaves, she’s a powerhouse that has been heralded by worldwide music fans and music moguls alike. Mixmag awarded her the Breakthrough DJ Award at the end of 2017, a well-deserved push for her trailblazing career. Her mixes have an authentic dance floor vibe that made her debut Essential Mix turn heads, and her original tracks are of such great caliber that she landed a spot on Pete Tong’s show for her collaboration with Sasha.
Don’t miss a beat this year; Les Plages Electroniques is a good move and you should get your tickets today.
