As droves of trance fans have graduated to house and techno in recent years, i_o's latest remix symbolizes their sonic transition. The anonymous producer has offered up a rendition of Above & Beyond's 2011 single "Alchemy" that casts a shadow over the source material.
A video shared via i_o's social media accounts shows the artist debuting his reimagining of Alchemy live to a festival crowd. Synced over the footage is a high-quality audio clip of the as-yet-unreleased remix in which the original's iconic vocal and chord progression give way to a stripped-down, thumping succession of kick drums.
Following his debut on mau5trap at the end of 2017, i_o has quickly risen to notoriety in the electronic music world. Most recently, he teamed up with Tommy Trash on "Let Me Go" featuring Daisy Guttridge - a more progressive iteration of his signature sound.
At the time of writing, i_o has yet to announce the official release date for his remix of "Alchemy" by Above & Beyond.
