When Avicii was found dead on April 20th of 2018, he had finished the better part of a follow-up album to 2015's Stories. Some of his longtime collaborators have helped to see through the effort and his family has released it in his memory. Tim has arrived today, June 6th, and it offers a glimpse of how the iconic DJ/producer's sound had evolved in his final years.
Prior to the full release, Avicii's team shared two singles: "SOS" featuring Aloe Blacc and "Tough Love" featuring Agnes. The remainder of the tracklist offers just as eclectic a cross section of the Swedish superstar's dance-pop sound.
"Heaven," which Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) co-wrote with Chris Martin, had been completed in 2016. His Imagine Dragons collaboration, "Heart Upon My Sleeve," only required a final verse for the album version. Other than that, the songs comprising the 12-track effort were 90% finished at the time Bergling took his own life, according to a press statement.
All proceeds from Tim will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, which Bergling's family officially launched on the one-year anniversary of his passing. Among other things, the organization will support mental health and suicide prevention initiatives.
