deadmau5 Spirals Into Techno Rabbit Hole With Shape-Shifting "some ep"
With his first EP in several years, deadmau5 reveals that his hunger for innovation in the disciplines of techno and house music remains unyielding.
Though modestly titled, some ep speaks volumes, showcasing the thriving vitality of the producer's melodic, raw and rugged techno stylings as both deadmau5 and TESTPILOT.
Leading the charge is the previously-released "Quezacotl," a track that evokes the mystique of its namesake with uplifting melodies and warm soundscapes. Premiered during his epic "retro5spective: 25 years of deadmau5" shows, this song had already captivated audiences. The same goes for "Wet," an eight-minute techno odyssey under deadmau5's alter ego, TESTPILOT, the first solo single released under the alias in a decade.
An unquestionable highlight of some ep is "Server," a methodical track characterized by whirring effects, driving basslines and plotting kicks. The song's intricate layers of sound and precise production create a sense of mechanical precision, making it a surefire standout.
