It looks like Diplo has taken a liking to bass music artist Luca Lush. Last week he enlisted the DJ/producer to deliver a mix for his BBC Radio 1 series, Diplo and Friends. Today he's released the Brooklyn talent's latest single, "Another Life" featuring Aviella, on his Mad Decent imprint.
"Another Life" straddles the line between serene melodies and surging bass for which Luca Lush (real name Frederick Jabroniu) has seen releases on such labels as Monstercat and Ultra Records. Aviella's dewy topline rings out over a haunting synth lead for the first minute of the arrangement. The thunderous drop that follows contrasts almost too sharply with the elements preceding it. His execution would likely elicit a strong reaction live, however.
Interestingly, Jabroniu opted for a psytrance drop the second time around. While the stylistic departure may not win over any of the genre's stalwarts, it demonstrates versatility on the part of the producer.
Apparently, Aviella's vocal breathed new life into how A&Rs received the track. In a press statement, Jabroniu said:
This song actually almost didn’t get released; I finished the instrumental version and we sent it to every label under the sun and got turned down. I really liked it though and am never one to give up on music, so I found an amazing singer on Soundcloud and sent it to her. When Aviella sent me back the demo it had transformed into a completely different song–her vocals brought it to another level. We sent it back to all the labels that had turned down the instrumental original and they all wanted to sign it. You get told no 95% of the time in music, this release for me just shows that sticking with it pays off.
