MARTIN GARRIX GEARS UP FOR ADE WITH A SPECIAL SET ON BEATS 1’S ONE MIX [LISTEN]
Martin Garrix’s rise in the electronic music world has been prolific.
Having been musically trained since a young age, and learning how to DJ after being inspired by Tiesto performing at the Olympic games in Athens, producing electronic music was a natural transition for Garrix. As fate would have it, Tiesto actually took him under his wing and mentored him.
Garrix broke through the dance charts in 2012, with a remix of Christina Aguilera’s “Your Body”. He signed with Spinnin’ Records later that year. Then, in 2013, his debut original “Animals” propelled him into the limelight, making the top 10 across many countries and dominating the festival circuit. The song helped him attain the title of youngest artist to have a track hit the #1 spot on Beatport.
Garrix didn’t stay a one hit wonder though. After teaming up with Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager) he became a staple feature at notable festivals like Tomorrowland, Coachella, EDC and Ultra. In 2014, His Gold Skies EP added another two breakthrough tracks to his arsenal, “Tremor” featuring Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, and Gold Skies featuring Sander van Doorn and DVBBS. In the same year, he attained the fourth spot in DJ Mag’s Top 100 list.

Over time, Garrix has branched out from the big room sound, experimenting with progressive house, future bass and pop, highlighting a more melodic approach to his production. He has worked with distinguished artists like Usher and Ed Sheeran. And, in other achievements, he created his own record label, STMPD RCRDS, after splitting with Spinnin’. Not much later, he struck a deal with Sony Music.
Around this time last year, Garrix was named the world’s #1 DJ in DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 list, the youngest person to receive the title. With Amsterdam Music Event (ADE) this weekend, and the announcement of this year’s list, fans are hopeful Garrix will retain his position.
