When Skrillex released “Midnight Hour” alongside Boyz Noise and Ty Dolla $ign earlier in 2019, he was put back on the center stage of the world after staying under the radar for quite some time. Now, the Grammy-nominated track has received four reimagined cuts including remixes from Four Tet, Mall Grab and Loco Dice as well as a previously released dub mix.
Midnight Hour (The Remixes) opens with English dance icon Four Tet’s rendition of the original R&B house track. Four Tet (real name Kieran Hebden) begins his rendition with a hypnotic vocal loop until listeners are met with the stripped-back, minimalistic house beat. The mesmerizing vocal loop in the intro is brought in and out with added percussion, making for a completely different listen than the original.
Following in the theme of dance music icons, the next two remixes come from Mall Grab and Desolat label head Loco Dice. Both energizing spins take the original core elements of the track and transform them into dance-floor chaos.
Fans may recognize the dub mix from Skrillex and Boys Noize, who also jointly release music under the alias Dog Blood, as it was previously released in September. The dub mix emphasizes the percussion and bass of the track, taking only hints of Ty Dolla $ign’s main vocals.
