A DrugAbuse.com study hosted by Metal Injection found that EDM and heavy metal fans consume the most drugs and alcohol at shows. Based on their admittedly small sample, (976 people) they found that 67.5% of EDM concertgoers and 62.2% of heavy metal concertgoers consumed drugs or alcohol at a show.

DrugAbuse.com's study featured a very thorough breakdown of participants' drug and alcohol use sorted by genre, drug of choice, reasons for consumption, and more. When sorted by drug, EDM ranked in the top three for six of the seven categories, with benzodiazepines being the exception.

As expected, the percentage of MDMA use at shows was significantly higher for EDM compared to the other genres. EDM concertgoers were also found to use cocaine and hallucinogens more than concertgoers from other genres.

Swedish House Mafia Announce First Tour In 10 Years, Drop Long-Awaited Collab With The Weeknd

The long-awaited "Moth To A Flame" has finally arrived alongside the announcement of a massive, 44-date global tour.

The study went on to list the reasons why concertgoers chose to use drugs and alcohol at shows. EDM fans report using drugs and alcohol to increase energy and to experiment. The study also shows more than three fourths of EDM fans claim to use drugs and alcohol to enhance their enjoyment of the show.

It's worth noting that a sample of 976 is quite small and by no means representative of the entire dance music scene. Drug use and EDM culture have a complex relationship, as many artists speak out against the use of drugs while many glorify it.

If you or someone you know suffers from drug addiction, DrugAbuse.com is an excellent resource for getting help.
